ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the election schedule for six vacant seats of the Senate. Three of them are from Balochistan.
As per the schedule, elections will be held on March 14.
The submission period for nomination papers is scheduled from March 2 to March 3, 2024, running from 08:30 AM to 04:30 PM.
Upon closure of nominations, the list of candidates will be made public on March 3, enhancing transparency in the electoral process. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 5, with a deadline for appeals against acceptance or rejection set for March 7.
An appeals tribunal is tasked with resolving appeals by March 9, ensuring a swift process. Following this, a revised list of candidates will be promptly issued. Candidates will have until March 10 to withdraw their nomination papers.
It is pertinent to note that six seats were declared vacant when the members of the Senate were elected as members of other houses. Elections will be held on one vacant seat in Islamabad, two in Sindh and three vacant seats in Balochistan.
