OHIO: Canada extends a special remote work visa program to attract skilled freelancers and digital nomads globally.
Addressing a significant workforce demand in the high-tech sector, Canada is lifting visa restrictions to welcome talented individuals worldwide. The new visa policy is designed to facilitate freelancers and digital nomads, allowing them to work remotely without the obligation to be physically present in an office.
Under the policy, freelancers and high-tech professionals operating from home will receive visas designated as “Independent Contractor,” granting them the flexibility to work from any location within Canada.
As the global demand for high-tech talent rises, developed countries, including Canada, actively strive to attract skilled individuals. Following the lead of European countries, Canada and the United States are implementing special measures to ensure the consistent recruitment of high-tech professionals. Accompanying changes in visa policies are concessions related to accommodation.
Previously, freelancers were limited to a maximum of six months on a visitor visa to work in Canada. Isabelle Dubois, spokesperson for the Canadian Ministry of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, expresses optimism that talented high-tech workers worldwide can now stay in Canada, finding employers and enjoying the benefits and concessions provided by the country.
