Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, addressing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) threats of protests against alleged election rigging, expressed concerns about potential unrest reminiscent of the May 9 riots from the previous year.
These riots followed the arrest of deposed prime minister Imran Khan, resulting in violence and attacks on civil and military installations.
Naqvi emphasized the right to peaceful protests but warned of strict action if incidents akin to May 9 occurred.
He clarified that mobile phone service shutdown during elections was a federal government decision, and anyone with election result objections should approach relevant forums.
The 2024 election results, where PTI-backed candidates secured significant victories, have sparked controversy with the party alleging widespread rigging despite their substantial presence in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.
