ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar will represent Pakistan at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP-28) during its high-level segment in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed this on Thursday.
Scheduled for December 1-2, 2023, the conference will take place in the UAE. Caretaker Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Ahmed Irfan Aslam, launched the NDRMF live web portal dedicated to COP-28 activities on Wednesday. He emphasized Pakistan’s focus on energy transition during COP-28, with discussions aimed at fostering cooperation in this field.
To kick off the preparations, a Pre-COP 28 event was organized by the Ministry of Climate Change and National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF). The event, attended by Caretaker Climate Change Minister Ahmed Irfan Aslam, UAE Ambassador, and other senior officials, marked the launch of a dedicated website for sharing updates on COP-28-related activities during the international climate conference in Dubai from November 30th to December 12.
In a separate development, the caretaker prime minister chaired an inter-provincial review meeting concerning COP-28. The meeting, attended by caretaker federal ministers for finance, foreign affairs, climate change, and planning, along with relevant officials, aimed to assess and coordinate efforts for the upcoming conference.
