RAWALPINDI :Pakistan and Canada reaffirmed their intent to build on defence and security ties during a high-level meeting held Monday at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, for talks that touched on regional security, bilateral relations and other matters of shared interest.
Regional Security Takes Center Stage
During the meeting, Field Marshal Munir laid out Pakistan’s position on global peace and regional stability, underlining the need for joint efforts to confront common security challenges. He said sustained collaboration remains critical to managing shifting regional and international threats, while reaffirming Pakistan’s role in supporting peace in the region.
The conversation also touched on ways to deepen cooperation and keep dialogue channels open on issues both sides consider important, reinforcing the broader Pakistan Canada defence cooperation agenda discussed at the meeting.
Canada Acknowledges Pakistan’s Counterterrorism Role
Anand, for her part, praised Pakistan’s ongoing efforts and sacrifices in combating terrorism, recognising the country’s contribution to addressing regional security threats. The ISPR statement noted that she also credited Pakistan’s constructive role in fostering peace and stability across the region.
Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to expanding engagement in defence and security, signaling continued momentum in Pakistan Canada bilateral relations going forward.
Building on Existing Ties
The GHQ Rawalpindi meeting underscored a mutual interest in maintaining closer coordination between Islamabad and Ottawa on regional and international security issues, while strengthening existing diplomatic and defence links between the two countries.
Both sides also pledged to keep expanding bilateral engagement through ongoing dialogue and cooperation, with particular emphasis on regional stability and shared security goals.
As Pakistan Canada defence cooperation continues to develop, Monday’s meeting signals that both nations remain focused on translating diplomatic goodwill into practical security collaboration in the months ahead.
