PESHAWAR: The swearing-in ceremony for newly elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly descended into chaos.
The inaugural session, initially scheduled for 11 am, was significantly delayed. Even during the proceedings, disruptions erupted. Muslim League (N) activist Shobia Shahid created a scene by entering the chamber with a watch resulting and refused to leave despite lacking proper authorization.
Additionally, PTI workers present in the assembly raised loud slogans, contributing to the chaotic atmosphere.
The situation was further exacerbated by a discrepancy between official attendance permits and the actual number of individuals present. Over 1,000 passes were issued, exceeding the assembly hall’s capacity. Many individuals without authorized passes entered forcibly, leading to overcrowding and confusion. The police struggled to maintain order.
Despite the disturbances, Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mushtaq Ghani managed to administer the oath to 115 newly elected members. However, the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker is scheduled for Thursday, raising concerns about the potential for further disruptions.
