ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faez Isa, hinted that the Supreme Court may soon address the military court case and the general election case.
Justice Isa made these remarks during a hearing of a petition filed by employees of Pak-Arab oil refinery. The lawyer in the case requested a hearing after 15 days.
The Chief Justice mentioned that the refinery case might need to be postponed for two months as the court is gearing up to handle challenging cases, leaving limited time for routine petitions.
He also indicated that the general election case and the military courts case were on the verge of being addressed.
Cases filed under Article 184(3) had been on hold since the Supreme Court took up the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure bill. With a full-court bench confirming the bill’s constitutionality, these cases can now be reactivated.
The military court case had been adjourned by a larger bench under the previous chief justice, following assurances from the attorney general that no military trials would commence without informing the Supreme Court.
