The China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan, in partnership with the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), organized a significant event in Islamabad to unveil two reports: The Glorious 11 Years – How Chinese Companies Reshaped the Power Sector in Pakistan and the Business Climate Index of Chinese Companies in Pakistan. The event, held on Sunday, brought together dignitaries, business leaders, and academics to celebrate the reports and discuss their insights.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Jiang Zaidong, praised the transformative role Chinese companies have played in Pakistan’s energy sector, noting substantial improvements in infrastructure and job creation. He emphasized the mutual benefits of China-Pakistan cooperation, highlighting that Chinese investments have bolstered Pakistan’s energy capabilities and foreign reserves.
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani and Minister for Information Ata Tarar echoed the Ambassador’s sentiments, commending China’s unwavering support and emphasizing the transparency and efficiency that Chinese investments bring to Pakistan’s power sector. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla also addressed the gathering, recognizing the positive impacts on Pakistan’s economy.
Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce in Pakistan, Wang Huihua, detailed the progress since 2013, with Chinese enterprises now contributing 43% of Pakistan’s installed power capacity. He underlined the importance of green and low-carbon initiatives that have been pivotal in reducing power shortages and costs. The two reports aim to boost confidence in business communities and inspire future investments, further solidifying China-Pakistan economic ties.
