ISLAMABAD: A special court formed under Official Secrets Act adjourned hearing in the cipher case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday without indicting them.
The special court, initially set for October 17, delayed the indictment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and ex-Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi due to undistributed challan copies. Both politicians, refusing to sign at the prior hearing, saw proceedings at the jail on Tuesday, led by Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain and Special Prosecutor Shah Khawar.
Imran Khan, with lawyers Salman Safdar Butt and Khalid Yousaf, attended the courtroom within the jail. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq clarified on Monday that conducting the trial in jail posed no ‘ill will,’ addressing Imran’s security concerns.
The cipher case, under the Official Secrets Act, accuses Imran Khan of revealing a classified cipher from Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington, reported as ‘lost.’ Preceding his no-confidence vote ousting, Imran Khan disclosed the cipher in Islamabad, alleging a US conspiracy against him.
