COAS Asim Munir’s Tenure to Restart with Appointment as Chief of Defence Forces

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir’s tenure is set to restart following his new appointment as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), according to a bill presented in the National Assembly. The legislation, aimed at amending the Army Act, outlines the terms and conditions for the newly created post of CDF.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif introduced the bill in the National Assembly, while Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar clarified that the CDF’s term would be fixed at five years, effective from the date of appointment. The amendment formalizes the creation of the CDF position and ensures a structured tenure for Pakistan’s top military leadership, marking a significant development in the country’s defence hierarchy.
