Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional restrictions on freedom of expression during his address at the passing-out parade of Pakistan Air Force cadets.
Speaking at the Asghar Khan Academy in Risalpur, General Munir highlighted Article 19 of the Constitution, which delineates the boundaries of freedom of speech and opinion.
Addressing the graduating cadets, General Munir underscored their crucial role in defending the nation’s skies and fostering regional unity. He stressed the values of character, courage, and competence that they are expected to embody throughout their military careers.
General Munir reminded the cadets of their responsibility as guardians of the skies and protectors of regional unity. He urged them to maintain extraordinary conduct, reflecting not only personal ethics but also the esteemed institution they represent.
Furthermore, General Munir urged the cadets to be prepared to make sacrifices for the defense, honor, and dignity of their homeland. He emphasized the expectation for them to uphold the nation’s spirit, professionalism, and bravery.
Regarding freedom of speech, General Munir cautioned against overstepping constitutional boundaries while expecting adherence to constitutional principles from all quarters.
Reflecting on regional dynamics, General Munir warned against the implications of an arms race and the evolving nature of air power due to advancements in technology.
Praising the Pakistan Air Force’s commitment to duty, General Munir cited examples of their valor, including their actions during the February 2019 conflict.
Additionally, he condemned indiscriminate violence in conflicts like the Gaza war and reiterated Pakistan’s support for the oppressed, particularly in Kashmir.
General Munir drew inspiration from national heroes and urged the cadets to remain steadfast in their commitment to the nation and uphold Pakistan’s dignity. He stressed the importance of loyalty to the state and encouraged them to follow the exemplary service and sacrifice of past heroes.
