The Coca-Cola Foundation, renowned for its dedication to economic empowerment and environmental sustainability, has joined forces with charity: water, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing clean and safe water worldwide, to initiate a transformative clean water project in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. This initiative aims to establish and revitalize 372 community water points, ensuring access to clean and safe water for over 3,500 individuals. Balochistan, Pakistan’s most parched and water-deprived region, has faced mounting challenges since the devastating floods of 2022.
Saadia Madsbjerg, President of The Coca-Cola Foundation, expressed pride in supporting this project alongside charity: water, emphasizing the significance of partnerships in maximizing the impact of sustainable practices, particularly in areas where vulnerable communities grapple with climate-related water stress and lack access to municipal services.
Teaming up with local partner Muslim Aid, charity: water and The Coca-Cola Foundation are dedicated to enhancing sustainable water access and sanitation in underserved Balochistan communities. This endeavor not only aims to bring clean water closer to home for thousands but also promises advancements in community development and public health.
Scott Harrison, founder and CEO of charity: water, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that it will create a lasting positive impact on the lives of thousands by ensuring reliable access to clean water, a fundamental necessity.
Local partner Muslim Aid will play a pivotal role in rehabilitating and implementing community and government water systems, as well as building the capacity of relevant stakeholders to ensure sustainability and meet community needs.
Bibi, a community member set to benefit from the project, shared the struggles her village faces due to severe water shortages, expressing hope that the new water system will improve lives by providing clean water at their doorstep, thereby enhancing health, education, and overall well-being.
Access to clean water is crucial for health, empowerment, education, and economic growth. However, 703 million people worldwide lack basic access, with the burden disproportionately falling on women and girls, who collectively spend millions of hours fetching water daily. This unpaid and laborious task perpetuates cycles of poverty and poor health.
This project underscores charity: water’s ongoing commitment to providing clean water to those in need globally. With support from partners like The Coca-Cola Foundation and local organizations, charity: water continues its mission to ensure access to clean and safe water for all.
