Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast cold and dry weather over most parts of the country during the coming week, while dense fog is expected to continue affecting several plains, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and upper Sindh.
According to the weather outlook, cold conditions will prevail nationwide from Monday, January 5 to Sunday, January 11, 2026, with cloudy and very cold weather likely in hilly areas. Moderate to dense fog is expected to disrupt visibility, particularly during morning and night hours in Punjab, Islamabad, plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.
From Monday and Tuesday, cold weather will dominate most regions, while mountainous areas will experience very low temperatures. Fog conditions may affect road and air traffic in major cities, including Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Multan, and Islamabad. Frost may also occur at isolated places in Kashmir and the Potohar region during early morning hours.
Between Wednesday and Sunday, the weather is expected to remain mainly cold and dry in most plains of the country. Persistent fog is likely to continue in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, especially at night and during early mornings. Meanwhile, very cold weather is forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan, where temperatures may drop significantly.
The Met Office has advised commuters and travelers to take precautionary measures during foggy conditions, avoid unnecessary travel during low visibility hours, and follow traffic advisories to prevent accidents.
