ISLAMABAD: The chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has voiced concerns over the government’s method of introducing a proposed constitutional amendment, criticizing the lack of prior notice.
Barrister Gohar questioned the legitimacy of the amendment’s process, asking, “Is this how a constitutional amendment is introduced?”
Khan highlighted that PTI has more than 80 members in the National Assembly (MNAs). He warned that any PTI members who vote against party directives could face disqualification under Article 63A of the Constitution, which addresses defection. He emphasized that such votes would not be counted and could result in immediate disqualification.
Furthermore, Khan indicated that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman might support PTI on this issue.
In a related development, a PTI delegation—including senior figures such as Asad Qaiser, Umar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and Sahibzada Hamid—reportedly visited Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence. This visit took place while a government delegation, led by Punjab’s caretaker chief minister Mohsin Naqvi and Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, was also at Maulana Rehman’s home.
