ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a bailable arrest warrant for former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in a contempt case.
A four-member commission, led by ECP member Nisar Durrani, heard the contempt case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.
During the hearing, Imran Khan’s counsel Shoaib Shaheen’s assistant informed the court that Shaheen was attending proceedings at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The ECP inquired about the possibility of virtual appearance for respondents via video link, noting its necessity in criminal but not civil cases.
Faisal Chaudhry, assistant to Fawad Chaudhry’s lawyer, clarified that Chaudhry’s counsel was also engaged at the IHC.
Despite arguments regarding ongoing cases at the high court, the ECP emphasized its independence and issued a bailable arrest warrant for Fawad Chaudhry due to his continuous absence.
The case has been adjourned until August 7.
