Security forces neutralized 11 terrorists in three counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). These operations were conducted in separate areas between December 17 and 18.
The military’s media wing stated that an intelligence-based operation (IBO) took place in Tank district following reports of militant presence. Security forces effectively engaged the militants’ location during the operation. Seven terrorists, described as “Khwarij,” were killed in the exchange of fire.
In another IBO in the general area of Datta Khel in North Waziristan district, two terrorists were eliminated. Similarly, in a third encounter in the general area of Mamad Gat in Mohmand district, two terrorists were gunned down after intense fighting.
Security personnel recovered weapons and ammunition from the slain militants. The ISPR revealed that these terrorists were involved in several attacks against security forces and innocent civilians. To ensure the area was secure, sanitization operations were launched to locate and eliminate any remaining threats.
The ISPR reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism. Security forces remain determined to eliminate this menace and restore peace in the region.
The Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) issued a report highlighting a sharp rise in fatalities from terrorist violence and counter-terrorism campaigns during the third quarter of 2024. Between July and September, 722 individuals were killed in 328 incidents, while 615 others sustained injuries.
According to the report, 97% of these fatalities occurred in KP and Balochistan, the highest percentage in a decade. Over 92% of the incidents involved terror attacks and counter-terrorism operations in these provinces.
The report also noted that fatalities in the first three quarters of 2024 have already surpassed the total deaths recorded in 2023. The number of fatalities reached 1,534 compared to 1,523 in the previous year.
Meanwhile, terrorist groups continue to reorganize and strengthen their networks. Most attacks remain unclaimed by insurgent or terrorist groups, likely due to tactical reasons.
These operations and reports underscore the critical challenges posed by terrorism in Pakistan. The efforts of security forces demonstrate a relentless commitment to counter-terrorism and maintaining national security.
