ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that Pakistan will be hosting a cricket tri-series for the first time in two decades. This decision came following a meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and counterparts from South Africa and New Zealand.
In a statement released by PCB, it was disclosed that the meeting between Naqvi, Cricket South Africa (CSA) Chairman Lawson Naidoo, and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Chairman Roger Twose centered around the ODI tri-series.
Scheduled for February 2025 in Pakistan, just before the ICC Champions Trophy, the tri-series garnered unanimous agreement and positive feedback from all parties involved.
Naqvi extended invitations to Twose and Naidoo to visit Pakistan, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming tri-series and underlining its significance after a prolonged absence of such tournaments in Pakistan.
“The Tri-series featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and New Zealand promises to be an exciting event, marking a significant return of such competitions to Pakistan. I extend my gratitude to the heads of NZC and CSA for their cooperation,” stated Naqvi.
He also expressed PCB’s eagerness to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, considering it a prestigious opportunity for Pakistan to welcome the top eight ODI teams to its venues.
The last tri-series organized by PCB was in October 2004, with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe participating as visiting teams.
