CTD Arrests 49 Terrorists, Including Indian ‘RAW’ Agent, in Province-Wide Operations

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested 49 terrorists, including an alleged Indian intelligence agency RAW agent, during a series of intelligence-based operations carried out across Punjab over the past week, officials said on Sunday.

According to authorities, the arrests were made following credible intelligence inputs. A suspected RAW agent, identified as Mujtaba, was apprehended in Lahore. Security officials said explosives, weapons, and maps of sensitive and key government installations were recovered from his possession.

Officials further stated that explosive material and equipment used to manufacture suicide jackets were also seized from other arrested suspects. Preliminary investigations indicate that the militants were planning attacks at multiple locations to spread fear and panic among the public.

CTD officials disclosed that 6,131 combing operations were conducted across the province during the past month. As a result, 599 suspects were arrested, while 243,546 individuals were questioned during security checks.

The operations were carried out in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Faisalabad.

In view of the prevailing security situation, CTD has decided to further intensify intelligence-based operations to prevent potential terrorist activities.
