The CTD Karachi operation early Monday morning led to the killing of three suspected militants linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Manghopir. Officials confirmed that the raid targeted operatives from the Fitna Al-Khawarij faction.
One of the slain militants, identified as Zafran, carried a government bounty of Rs20 million. Another, Qudratullah, was believed to be a trained suicide bomber involved in an attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi last year. The third suspect’s identity is yet to be confirmed.
The CTD Karachi operation was launched after intelligence reports pinpointed the presence of TTP operatives at a residential hideout in Manghopir. Police teams, led by CTD DSP Raja Umar Khattab, sealed off the area. When officers approached the house, the suspects opened fire, sparking a fierce exchange of gunfire. All three militants were neutralised in the shootout.
Speaking to reporters at the Civil Hospital Karachi, DSP Khattab said Zafran was a high-profile militant with a heavy bounty. He added that investigators suspect one of the deceased had direct links to last year’s assault on Chinese workers.
After the raid, the Bomb Disposal Squad combed the property. They recovered a cache of arms and explosives, including suicide vests, grenades, and a diary listing future targets. The CTD team also secured evidence to trace the ownership of the house used as a safe haven by the militants.
Authorities stressed that inquiries into the CTD Karachi operation are ongoing. Investigators are tracking the group’s Karachi network to determine if more operatives remain active in the city. Security agencies continue to intensify operations amid rising militant violence, especially in urban areas.
