CTD Kills Wanted TTP Commander in DI Khan Operation

The Counter Terrorism Department’s Dera Ismail Khan Region carried out a successful intelligence-based operation early Saturday, resulting in the death of a wanted militant known as Commander Khalid. Officials say the operation was based on verified technical intelligence gathered ahead of time.

According to a CTD press release, the department had received confirmed reports that Khalid, alias Commander, son of Sadu Zai (also known as Alu Zai) and a resident of Munees Abad in Dera Ismail Khan, was hiding in the Korai area within the jurisdiction of Shorkot police station. Khalid was wanted in several cases, including the targeted killing of CTD Constable Muhammad Ali.

How the CTD Operation Unfolded

Acting on this intelligence, the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team launched the targeted operation in the early hours of July 18, 2026, along the Tank–Dera Ismail Khan Road near Korai.

Security personnel say they surrounded the suspect and repeatedly called on him to surrender. Instead of complying, Khalid opened fire on the CTD team. Officers responded in self-defense with what the department described as an immediate and effective counter-response, which resulted in his death at the scene.

Background on the Slain Militant

Preliminary investigations indicate that Khalid was responsible for the March 17, 2025 targeted killing of Constable Muhammad Ali. He was also wanted by local police in multiple other cases and was known for concealing his identity and frequently changing his appearance to evade law enforcement.

Officials confirmed that the slain militant belonged to the TTP’s Zakir Kochi Karawan group, a faction linked to other regional terror networks. Investigators say facilitators, financiers, and logistical supporters connected to him are now being identified for further legal action.

Weapons Recovered From the Scene

A search of the site recovered a 9mm pistol, a hand grenade, and a smartphone from the deceased militant. All recovered items have been sent for forensic analysis to support the ongoing investigation.

CTD Vows Continued Action Against Militant Networks

In its statement, CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reaffirmed its commitment to continuing intelligence-based operations against terrorists, their facilitators, and support networks. The department said it will keep using modern technology and professional expertise to pursue these efforts without pause, with the stated goal of eliminating terrorism in the region.

This latest CTD Dera Ismail Khan operation reflects the department’s ongoing focus on dismantling militant networks operating in the province and holding those responsible for attacks on security personnel accountable.
