The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has released detailed statistics on terrorism-related incidents in the province for the year 2024. According to the report, this year has been the most violent since 2009, with a total of 638 terrorist incidents reported.
The year 2024 has proven to be another challenging one for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marked by a significant surge in terrorism incidents. According to a report released by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), the province witnessed a sharp increase in terrorist activities throughout the year.
During the spam of year 142 police personnel were martyred, and 214 others were injured in various attacks.133 civilians lost their lives, while 246 sustained injuries in these incidents. The province experienced six suicide bombings this year.72 cases of targeted killings were recorded. 20 kidnapping incidents were reported in the province.
The CTD carried out 2,981 intelligence-based operations across the province, resulting in significant achievements,31 high-value and most-wanted terrorists were apprehended.
Neutralizations: 250 militants were killed during operations.
Seizures: Security forces recovered 850 kilograms of explosives, 165 hand grenades, and 7 suicide jackets from terrorist hideouts. The majority of operations were conducted in terrorism-prone areas, including: North Waziristan, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Bajaur.
These areas have been at the forefront of the counter-terrorism efforts, given their history of militant activity.
The alarming rise in terrorist incidents highlights the persistent threat posed by militant groups in the region, despite extensive counter-terrorism operations. The CTD’s efforts in neutralizing threats and dismantling terror networks are commendable, but the loss of life and the increasing frequency of attacks underline the need for more robust measures.
This surge in violence raises concerns about security dynamics in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling for sustained and collaborative efforts between security agencies and local communities to combat the menace of terrorism effectively.
