RAWALPINDI:The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rawalpindi has issued 15-day detention orders for four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.
The leaders, Shahryar Riaz, Ajmal Sabir, Ameer Afzal, and Taimur Masood Akbar, will be arrested and detained at Adiala Jail, following a recommendation from the police department citing security concerns.
Earlier, the Islamabad police registered cases against Shoaib Shaheen and 80 others for a violent protest outside the National Press Club. The cases, filed under the terrorism act and charges of attempted murder, robbery, and vandalism, targeted PTI leaders Amir Mughal, Ali Bukhari, and others.
According to the police, the protesters clashed with officers, snatched weapons, and damaged public property. Ten protesters have been arrested so far.
The protest, led by Shoaib Shaheen, Amir Mughal, and Ali Bukhari, was held to demonstrate against the government. Additionally, last week, several PTI leaders, including Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, MNAs Shehryar Afridi, and Shandana Gulzar, were booked on charges of sedition, inciting the public, and spreading chaos. In total, 28 members were implicated for allegedly delivering anti-state speeches and inciting unrest.
