At least ten people lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Indus Highway near Methakhel in Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The deadly collision involved a passenger van and a trailer on Tuesday morning, according to rescue and police officials.
Police stated that the crash happened near Lucky Ghandaki, a hilly section of the highway known for sharp curves and fast-moving traffic. The van, full of passengers, collided head-on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction.
Rescue 1122 confirmed that ten people died at the scene. At least eight more sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital, where an emergency was declared to handle the situation.
Several injured passengers were reported to be in serious condition. Rescue teams worked tirelessly to pull people out of the twisted wreckage. Authorities feared the death toll from the road accident could rise further.
Police said the van was traveling from Kohat to Dera Ismail Khan when the incident occurred. Initial findings suggest the driver may have lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle.
In a separate road accident, a passenger coach overturned on the Hazara Motorway near Shah Maqsood in Haripur. The coach was headed from Gilgit to Rawalpindi. Two people died in that crash, and at least 20 others were injured, including three foreign nationals.
Motorway police believe the driver fell asleep while driving, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. Emergency services responded quickly and shifted all the wounded to nearby hospitals.
Investigations have been launched into both road accidents. Officials have urged public transport companies to enforce rest breaks for drivers and ensure proper maintenance of vehicles. These steps, they said, are crucial to prevent such fatal crashes and improve road safety.
