Security authorities reported that unidentified drones were spotted over Peshawar and parts of Islamabad, including the Faizabad interchange and the I-8 sector. According to preliminary information, Pakistan’s air defence system detected the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and successfully shot them down.
Officials said the drones reportedly originated from within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). Security teams responded quickly and destroyed the UAVs in areas away from populated zones to prevent any potential risk to civilians.
Authorities also dismissed circulating reports claiming that Islamabad International Airport had been closed following the incident. Officials clarified that the airport remained fully operational and that flight arrivals and departures continued as normal.
Initial reports indicate that no casualties or injuries have been reported as a result of the incident. Security agencies are continuing their investigation to determine the origin and purpose of the drones.
Further details are expected as officials review the recovered debris and surveillance data.
