ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is holding a crucial meeting today to discuss the Peshawar High Court’s recent decision regarding the PTI’s intra-party elections.
The ECP had initially nullified the PTI’s elections and revoked their bat symbol, but the PHC, in a single bench ruling on Tuesday, overturned this decision and reinstated the bat symbol.
Sources suggest that during today’s meeting, the ECP will strategize its next steps, possibly considering an appeal to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Some experts argue that the PHC’s single bench ruling may not hold, as the ECP is equivalent to a high court, and its decisions are typically subject to review only by a division bench. This argument was presented by Additional Attorney General Sanaullah before the PHC on Tuesday.
