ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party elections null and void, ordering a reelection within 20 days.
According to details, the electoral body announced its reserved verdict on the PTI intra-party elections case. In its decision, the ECP stated that PTI failed to conduct fair intra-party elections. PTI is required to conduct the re-election within 20 days of the decision and submit a report to the ECP within seven days after the elections.
However, the ECP, in its decision, mentioned that the party is eligible to obtain an election symbol for the upcoming general elections scheduled to be held on February 8 next year.
On September 13, the ECP had reserved the decision after the PTI lawyer submitted his reply following the issuance of a show-cause notice to the party. A four-member bench led by Nisar Durrani heard the case.
The PTI intra-party polls had been pending before the ECP since 2022.
