ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has filed a review petition challenging the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats, seeking a reconsideration of the ruling from July 12.
In its petition, the ECP asserts that it has fulfilled its constitutional and legal duties and that the decision regarding the 39 PTI members was implemented correctly. The commission contends that it did not misinterpret any legal or judicial rulings and argues that the Supreme Court should not interfere with Article 218 of the Constitution.
The ECP maintains its constitutional right to seek a review of judicial decisions and plans to scrutinize the nomination papers, party affiliation documents, and affidavits of independent members. To facilitate this process, a four-member committee headed by the Special Secretary has been formed.
Last month, the Supreme Court of Pakistan issued a judgment on an application filed by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) regarding reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies.
