The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a comprehensive approach ahead of the general elections by freezing development funds for local government departments across the nation.
This decision encompasses a halt on the initiation of any local development schemes or related activities, including tenders and contract awards by local governments and cantonment boards.
This freeze remains in effect until the announcement of the general election results.
Notably, the ECP had previously imposed a ban on appointments and transfers affecting federal, provincial, and local institutions.
The Secretary of the Election Commission conveyed this decision to caretaker governments in all four provinces and the Federation.
The recent directive also involves retrieving official vehicles from former ministers, advisors, and assistants. Assembly members have been instructed to vacate official residences.
Furthermore, the ECP has mandated the termination of employment for political figures appointed in various institutions.
The commission is seeking detailed asset disclosures from the caretaker prime minister, chief ministers, and cabinet members.
While caretaker governments can manage day-to-day affairs in line with the law and ongoing international agreements, the Election Commission has set clear restrictions to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
