ECP restores membership of 25 parliamentarians

ECP ready for Punjab election on May 14

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the membership of the 25 members of the parliament including four senators and 21 MNAs after submitting of assets and liabilities.

According to Election Commission of Pakistan, the membership of Senator Ahmad Khan, Senator Anwarul Haq, federal minister Khwaja Asif, Noor Alam Khan and Opposition leader Raja Riaz have been restored. The ECP has also restored the memebership of Raza Rabbani Khar, Syed Basit Ahmad Sultan, Shaza Fatime, Musarat Asif Khwaja and Shahida Rehman,

The ECP had suspended the membership of 271 lawmakers for not submitting their assets and liabilities that is required by the top electoral body at the year-end.

The list included 21 senators, 136 members of the National Assembly, 48 members of the Sindh Assembly, 54 members of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and 12 members of the Balochistan Assembly.

The ECP said in a notification issued in this regard that lawmakers could not participate in parliamentary proceedings and their membership would remain suspended until they submit their respective statements.

The top electoral body stated in the notification that some lawmakers did not submit their statements of the assets despite the expiry of the December 31 deadline. It asked the lawmakers to submit the details of their assets to the ECP by January 15, otherwise, their membership will be suspended on January 16.
