Govt, opposition committee fails to select chief election commissioner

LAHORE/QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will nominate caretaker chief ministers for Punjab and Balochistan after parliamentary committees failed to reach a consensus over proposed candidates.
In Punjab, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed has blamed the former government of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for the deadlock.
Meanwhile in Balochistan, a meeting of the parliamentary committee to propose names for the caretaker chief minister ended inconclusively.
As parliamentary committees of both the provinces failed to reach consensus over names of caretaker chief ministers, the responsibility of nominating caretaker chief ministers now rests with the Election Commission of Pakistan.
