ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan made changes to the provincial election commissioners of Sindh and Balochistan. In a notification, Balochistan Election Commissioner Sharifullah was transferred to Sindh, while Sindh’s Election Commissioner Ijaz Anwar Chohan was assigned to Balochistan.
MQM-P expressed concerns about delimitation in Hyderabad, accusing the ECP of favoring PPP in the process. The MQM-P coordination committee criticized the ECP, alleging it was acting as the “B-team of the PPP” and called for the reversal of unfair delimitations in Hyderabad’s constituencies.
Subsequently, PML-N and MQM-P, among other parties, criticized the final delimitation of electoral constituencies in Sindh and demanded the removal of the provincial election commissioner.
On December 8, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja assured that the schedule for the upcoming general elections on February 8, 2024, would be released in the coming days. A senior ECP official mentioned to Dawn that the schedule is expected to be announced on December 14. The ECP is actively preparing for the general elections, having completed the printing and transmission of the final electoral rolls, with the notification of DRO, RO, and Assistant Officers scheduled in the coming days.
