Eight terrorists were eliminated in two separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement from the military’s media wing.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in the Tank district. This action was initiated following reports of Khawarij presence in the area. During the operation, six terrorists were killed in a fierce exchange of fire.
In a separate encounter in the general area of Tirah Valley in Khyber, security forces killed two more Khawarij. The ISPR added that sanitization operations are ongoing in both areas to ensure no remaining Khawarij are left behind. Pakistan’s security forces remain resolute in eradicating militant violence from the country.
On Monday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir warned that any attempt to disrupt Pakistan’s peace would be met with decisive military force. The army chief made this statement during his visit to Peshawar, where he received a comprehensive security briefing. He reiterated the army’s commitment to combatting terrorism, specifically targeting the banned Fitna Al Khawarij group.
Pakistan continues to battle a resurgence of militant violence in its western border regions. This spike in attacks has been linked to the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
Statistics from the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies reveal that 2024 witnessed a six-year high in casualties. More than 1,500 civilians, security personnel, and militants lost their lives during the year. Pakistan’s armed forces remain steadfast in their mission to eliminate terrorism and restore stability.
