Electricity Price Cut by Rs4.04 for Industry from Feb 1

Electricity Price Cut by Rs4.04 for Industry from Feb 1

The government has reduced electricity prices for industrial consumers by Rs4.04 per unit, according to an official notification. The new rates will take effect from February 1, providing relief to the industrial sector.

Under the revised tariff, the base electricity rate has been lowered from Rs33.58 per unit to Rs29.54 per unit. After the reduction, the effective tariff for industries stands at around 11.5 cents per unit.

Officials said the cut eliminates a cross-subsidy burden of about Rs101 billion on the industrial sector. The move is aimed at supporting businesses and improving industrial competitiveness.

The Power Division had filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) after industry raised concerns over high power costs. Following a hearing on February 11, the regulator sent its decision to the government, which has now been implemented.

Authorities say the reduction is expected to ease production costs and encourage industrial growth.
