ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices have been increased once again across the country, including Karachi, after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a notification for a tariff hike under the monthly fuel adjustment.
According to the notification, power tariffs have been increased by Rs1.42 per unit for February 2026. The increase will apply to all consumers, including those served by K-Electric.
However, lifeline consumers and electric vehicle charging stations have been exempted from the latest hike.
NEPRA stated that the additional charges will be recovered from consumers in April 2026 electricity bills. The decision was issued after the authority completed its hearing on the February fuel cost adjustment and reserved its verdict earlier.
This comes shortly after a previous increase in January, when electricity prices were raised by Rs1.63 per unit under the same mechanism.
The back-to-back increases have added further financial pressure on consumers already dealing with high inflation and rising utility costs.
Experts say that fuel price fluctuations in the global market continue to impact electricity generation costs. However, frequent tariff adjustments are increasing the burden on households and businesses.
