Islamabad: Electricity providers have formally submitted an appeal to the NEPRA, seeking an increase in the power tariff by Rs1.30.
This proposed tariff hike, if approved, is projected to impose a financial burden of Rs22.56 billion on power consumers.
Of this amount, Rs12.12 billion is intended to be collected as capacity payment, while Rs4.61 billion would be allocated for repair and operation expenses.
Furthermore, the appeal also calls for shifting the burden of power theft and line loss, amounting to Rs6.61 billion, onto the shoulders of consumers.
Additionally, there is a recommendation to allocate Rs10.24 billion for the maintenance and utilization of the electricity distribution systems.
Notably, the electricity companies have proposed that this tariff increase be implemented in the form of quarterly payment adjustments.
NEPRA, in response to this appeal, has scheduled a public hearing for November 14.
During this hearing, various public representatives will convene to deliberate on the matter and decide the extent to which the power tariff should be increased, taking into consideration the broader implications and potential consequences for consumers.
