Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has sparked a fresh privacy debate, calling WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, “unsafe” for users. Musk suggested that people switch to X Chat, adding that even Signal, often praised for security, is “questionable.”
His comments came in the wake of a lawsuit filed by an international plaintiff group against Meta, alleging that WhatsApp violates user privacy. The lawsuit claims that the company has access to private conversations and collects, analyzes, and uses personal data, contradicting its end-to-end encryption claims.
A Meta spokesperson strongly denied these allegations, stating that WhatsApp messages have been protected by Signal Protocol end-to-end encryption for over a decade. They described the lawsuit as “baseless and unreasonable.”
Despite Meta’s defense, Musk’s remarks and the ongoing lawsuit have reignited discussions over messaging app privacy. Users worldwide are now questioning whether WhatsApp truly keeps their communications private.
With rising concerns over digital privacy, experts suggest users stay informed about app security and consider alternatives like X Chat or Signal to safeguard their data.
