ISLAMABAD: The Secretary of the Establishment Division appeared before the Election Commission of Pakistan to address the removal of Adviser to the Prime Minister Ahad Cheema, as well as the Islamabad police chief and deputy commissioner. A five-member bench, led by the Chief Election Commissioner, reviewed the cases concerning the dismissal of these officials.
During the proceedings, it was disclosed that Ahad Cheema’s removal notification was issued on Monday night. Establishment Division Secretary Inamullah urged the commission to reconsider the decision regarding the removal of the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner and Inspector General of Police. He mentioned that the Interior Ministry had submitted a report from the Intelligence Bureau on terrorist incidents, along with a report on the law and order situation in Islamabad.
Inamullah conveyed that the Interior Ministry desired the Election Commission to review its decision and retain the two officers. He also informed the commission that the Prime Minister had approved the replacement of both officers as per the Election Commission’s directive, and he requested the ECP to reconsider its decision.
In response, the Chief Election Commissioner stated that the commission would examine the Interior Ministry’s report and instructed the secretary to propose a panel for appointment to both positions.
