ISLAMABAD: Former spymaster and retired DG Inter-Services Intelligence, Lt General Faiz Hameed, appeared before the Faizabad sit-in commission on Thursday to record his statement.
In his statement, he mentioned that he conducted negotiations with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) based on government instructions.
Sources suggest that Lt General Hameed provided his statement to the commission, although it remains unclear whether he appeared in person. He denied allegations of being part of a conspiracy against the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Sharif government during the 2017 events.
The commission, led by Dr. Akhtar Ali Shah and featuring former IG Tahir Alam and Khushal Khan, is investigating the Faizabad sit-in. It was established after the Supreme Court rejected a government-initiated inquiry committee for the 2017 sit-in.
Formed in November, the commission is mandated by the Supreme Court to submit its report within two months. Lt General Hameed, who held a significant position in the ISI during the sit-in, addresses the events that paralyzed the twin cities and led to intense clashes between the TLP and the police.
