ISLAMABAD: At least 15 people were killed and more than 80 injured in a suicide bombing at the gate of an Imambargah in Islamabad’s Tarlai area on Thursday. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, officials said.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately after the explosion. Following the incident, the Islamabad Inspector General ordered emergency measures across the federal capital, as several injured individuals were reported at the site.
An emergency has been imposed at Polyclinic Hospital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), and CDA Hospital, officials said.
According to police sources, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) is investigating the nature of the blast to determine further details.
The injured are being shifted to PIMS and Polyclinic hospitals, where main emergency units, orthopaedic wards, burn centres, and neurology departments have been activated.
The Islamabad district administration confirmed that at least 10 injured persons have so far been shifted to PIMS, while others are being transported to different hospitals.
A spokesperson for the district administration said the blast site has been completely sealed, and security in the surrounding area has been tightened.
