Faisalabad Powerloom Workers Protest Punjab’s Minimum Wage Proposal, Demand Revisions

FAISALABAD: Thousands of powerloom workers took to the streets on Wednesday, launching a massive Faisalabad powerloom workers protest against the Punjab government’s new minimum wage policy. The recently proposed wage of Rs 40,000 per month has been outrightly rejected by the city’s textile labor force.

The protest began shortly after the provincial budget was announced. Workers in Faisalabad’s industrial areas walked off their jobs, chanting slogans against what they called an “anti-labor budget.” Several demonstrations were reported across key textile zones, causing disruption in factory operations.

Leaders of the Faisalabad powerloom workers protest stated that the proposed wage fails to meet even the most basic needs of working families. They argued that with inflation soaring, Rs 40,000 is simply not enough for survival. Many laborers are already struggling to cover food, rent, and healthcare expenses.

“The government has completely ignored daily wage earners,” said one labor representative. “This decision shows no understanding of how working-class families live.”

The protestors demanded that the wage policy be revised immediately. They also called for the formation of a proper wage board that includes representatives from labor unions. The Faisalabad powerloom workers protest has grown into a larger movement, pushing for fair treatment, dignity, and respect for workers in one of Pakistan’s major textile hubs.

Demonstrators vowed to continue their protests if the government does not revise the wage decision. Some also threatened a complete halt in powerloom production if their demands are not addressed. The Faisalabad powerloom workers protest has now drawn national attention, with calls for solidarity from workers in other cities.
