The business community in Faisalabad has initiated legal proceedings against Dr. Affan Qaiser, a renowned Transplant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist in Pakistan. They allege that his controversial statement regarding injected watermelons has incited widespread panic and substantial financial losses.
The Faisalabad Traders Association has submitted an application to file a case at the Ghulam Muhammad Police Station.
Dr. Affan’s social media post, wherein he suggested that watermelons were being injected with harmful substances, rapidly circulated, instilling fear among the public.
The petition lodged by the traders asserts that his remarks have caused chaos, significantly impacting both traders and property owners. They argue that the economy has suffered billions of rupees in losses due to the plummet in watermelon sales and consumer panic.
The businessmen have issued a legal notice demanding Rs 10 billion in compensation from Dr. Affan, holding him responsible for the economic disruption and the unwarranted anxiety generated by his baseless claims.
“A representative of the traders association stated, “Dr. Affan’s irresponsible remarks have not only harmed our businesses but also aimed to incite nationwide disorder. We seek justice and accountability for the substantial financial and emotional harm inflicted upon us.”
