ISLAMABAD: In the ongoing investigation into the Tehreek-e-Laibak Pakistan (TLP) sit-in at Faizabad, the Faizabad Dharna Commission has summoned the former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG-ISI), Lt. Gen. (r) Faiz Hameed. The commission, tasked with probing the events surrounding the TLP protest, has issued a notice through the Ministry of Defence, requesting Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed to provide evidence related to the incident.
According to media reports, this is the second time General Faiz has been called to appear before the commission. During the previous summons two weeks ago, he did not attend, citing the short notice period as a possible reason. To address this, the commission has now issued another notice, ensuring ample time for compliance during the session scheduled for next week.
Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, who previously served as the Director General (counter-terrorism) of ISI, played a crucial role in handling the TLP protesters in Islamabad and facilitating a peaceful resolution in 2017 under the tenure of then-prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
The Faizabad Dharna Commission has been actively gathering statements from key figures, including former PM Abbasi and former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal. Informed sources suggest that the commission is on track to conclude its report by the second week of January 2024.
