Fawad Rana Regains Control of Lahore Qalandars After Court Verdict

Fawad Rana Regains Control of Lahore Qalandars

LAHORE: Fawad Rana has regained control of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars following a decisive ruling by a Lahore tribunal, bringing an end to a long-running ownership dispute within the Rana family.

According to media reports, the tribunal terminated the control of Fawad Rana’s brothers, Sameen and Atif Rana, over the Lahore Qalandars franchise.

In its verdict, the court directed the brothers to pay Rs2.96 billion along with markup within 45 days. Failure to comply would require the immediate restoration of majority shareholding to Fawad Rana’s company.

Fawad Rana was the most prominent face of Lahore Qalandars during the early editions of the PSL, gaining popularity for his energetic presence and strong association with the team. However, internal family disputes later led to him being sidelined, allowing Sameen and Atif Rana to take control of the franchise.

In 2023, Fawad Rana filed a lawsuit against his brothers, alleging irregularities and fraud in the transfer of shares belonging to his company, CALCO. He maintained that the transfers were fake, misleading, and carried out through deception.

During court proceedings, it emerged that the younger brothers had secretly sold 30 per cent shares of KRR for $5 million, a revelation that proved to be a major turning point in the case.

Justice Baqar Maqbool ruled that the transfer of majority shares to the brothers was illegal, and ordered that control of Lahore Qalandars be restored in accordance with the law.

Following the ruling, Fawad Rana is set to make a return to the PSL spotlight, reclaiming his role in the franchise he once helped build.
