Federal Budget 2026-27 to Be Presented on June 10, Confirms Finance Minister

Pakistan’s Federal Budget 2026-27 will be presented on June 10, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed on Wednesday, as the government continues consultations with coalition partners and other stakeholders.

Speaking to reporters, Aurangzeb said discussions with allied parties had been positive and another round of meetings would take place later this week. He stressed the importance of moving forward in coordination with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), coalition partners, and other stakeholders.

The finance minister said the government aims to improve tax collection through stronger enforcement measures and by expanding the tax base. He also said efforts are underway to avoid imposing new taxes in the upcoming budget.

His confirmation follows reports that budget preparations had faced delays due to ongoing discussions with provinces over development spending priorities and the finalisation of budget figures with the IMF.

Later, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also confirmed June 10 as the date for the budget presentation after holding pre-budget consultations with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on current expenditures, development spending, and broader economic priorities for the fiscal year 2026-27. Participants also discussed the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), fiscal sustainability, public welfare initiatives, and measures to support inclusive economic growth.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous recommendation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the budget for the next fiscal year be presented on June 10.

The PPP delegation included Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Saleem Mandviwala, and Jam Khan Shoro. Senior government officials, including Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal, and FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, also attended.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly and Senate are scheduled to meet in Islamabad on June 5 for proceedings related to the upcoming budget. The National Assembly session will begin at 5pm, followed by the Senate session at 6pm.

The government plans to complete budget discussions and secure parliamentary approval by June 24. Under constitutional requirements, the budget must be passed before June 30 to take effect from July 1.

Budget documents show that the federal government has proposed a development allocation of more than Rs1.1 trillion for the fiscal year 2026-27, reflecting its focus on infrastructure, public services, and economic development projects.
