The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has reaffirmed that the Constitution must take precedence in every exercise of state authority, according to Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony marking the start of the 2026-27 judicial year, the chief justice described the occasion as a moment to reaffirm the judiciary’s dedication to ensuring justice for all citizens.
He noted that the Federal Constitutional Court has been actively and effectively addressing constitutional issues brought before it, reflecting the institution’s growing role in interpreting and safeguarding the country’s constitutional framework.
Constitution Must Guide Every Use of Power
Justice Aminuddin Khan was firm in stating that no exercise of power should occur outside the boundaries set by the Constitution. He explained that respecting constitutional limits is not just a legal formality but a cornerstone of national stability.
According to the chief justice, the Constitution clearly outlines the scope of authority granted to various institutions, along with the restrictions that come with it. Upholding these boundaries, he said, is what keeps the balance of power intact and prevents institutional overreach.
Embracing Technology to Strengthen the Judiciary
The chief justice also spoke about the growing role of digital tools within judicial operations. He pointed out that the Federal Constitutional Court has managed to resolve a number of significant cases in a relatively short span of time, crediting part of this efficiency to modern technological integration.
He added that leveraging technology is key to boosting both the transparency and overall capacity of judicial institutions, allowing courts to function more efficiently while maintaining public trust.
Equal Access to Constitutional Justice
Justice Aminuddin Khan underlined that access to justice is a basic right guaranteed to every citizen, regardless of background or status. He said that delivering constitutional justice without any form of discrimination must remain at the very center of the judiciary’s mission.
His remarks come as the Federal Constitutional Court continues to position itself as a central pillar in interpreting constitutional matters, with the chief justice’s comments signaling a continued push toward modernization, transparency, and equal treatment under the law in the year ahead.
