Islamabad: A man accused of a serious data leak and running an anti-state campaign on social media has been arrested. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Circle carried out a targeted raid in the Lake View Society, Bani Gala, Islamabad. During the operation, the suspect, identified as Nawaz, was taken into custody.
According to FIA officials, Nawaz had gained illegal access to the immigration and passport database. He reportedly extracted private data of common citizens and senior government officials. The accused is charged with leaking personal information such as passport details and photographs on various social media platforms.
Investigators said Nawaz used his X account, previously known as Twitter, to share sensitive government data. His online activity was aimed at spreading fear and creating panic among the public. Authorities believe this data leak posed a serious threat to national security and digital privacy.
The incident triggered quick action from law enforcement agencies. The data breach raised alarm bells at the highest levels. A formal case has now been registered against Nawaz under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
The PECA law carries harsh punishments for cybercrimes. Convicted individuals can face heavy fines and imprisonment. The FIA has seized the suspect’s digital devices and taken control of his social media accounts.
Officials confirmed that a forensic investigation is underway. The purpose is to uncover the scale of the data leak and find possible collaborators. The agency is now tracing every digital footprint left by the accused to understand the full extent of the information breach.
The authorities emphasized that such illegal activities involving confidential data will not be tolerated. Cybercrime units are actively monitoring threats to prevent any further data leaks or digital sabotage attempts in the future.
