LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol has arrested the third suspect wanted in connection with the murder of Ameer Balaj, son of the late underworld figure Tipu Truckanwala.
Ameer Balaj was tragically shot dead on February 19, 2024, by a gunman disguised as a guest at a wedding ceremony in Lahore. The gunman, later identified as Bilawal, was on the run following the murder.
An FIA spokesperson confirmed that Interpol had issued a Red Notice for Bilawal’s arrest, and he was captured in Oman. Bilawal was wanted by the Punjab Police for his role in the murder of Ameer Balaj, and a case was registered against him at Lahore’s Chung Police Station.
The suspect had fled the country last year to avoid arrest. After his capture, the FIA Immigration Lahore handed him over to the Punjab Police for further legal proceedings.
Last week, a District and Sessions Court in Lahore charged two other suspects, Haroon and Sohail Mehmood, in the case. The court has scheduled a witness testimony session for February 11.
Previously, suspects Gogi Butt, Teefi Butt, and Bilawal had been declared absconders in connection with the murder case.
It is noteworthy that Ameer Balaj’s father, Tipu Truckanwala, was also murdered in 2010 in a gun attack at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.
