ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has terminated 35 of its officers and personnel for their involvement in human smuggling. This decisive action follows incidents where boats carrying migrants sank in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Greece, as reported by Khyber News TV.
Cases have also been registered against 13 FIA constables. Their negligence or complicity allegedly aided human traffickers in sending people abroad illegally.
The FIA revealed that Director General Ahmad Ishaq Jahangir ordered a departmental inquiry against 49 officials linked to human trafficking. Following the inquiry, four inspectors, 10 sub-inspectors, two assistant sub-inspectors, five head constables, and 14 constables were dismissed from their positions.
DG Jahangir stated that the FIA has no place for officers involved in human smuggling or found negligent in their duties. He emphasized that strict disciplinary measures would be taken against such individuals. “This action aims to eliminate corruption by purging the department of black sheep,” he remarked.
The Director General condemned the exploitation of innocent people by human traffickers. He declared that those involved in such practices deserve no leniency or mercy. “Accountability is the only way to combat the menace of human trafficking,” he asserted.
The FIA’s crackdown sends a strong message against corruption and negligence. The agency vows to continue its efforts to prevent the exploitation of vulnerable individuals and ensure justice.
