Field Marshal Asim Munir Meets Iranian FM During Key Tehran Visit Amid US-Iran Talks

Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Iranian FM

Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi in Tehran as Pakistan continues its diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region and supporting dialogue between Iran and the United States.

According to Iranian media reports, both leaders discussed the overall regional situation, peace and stability, and ongoing diplomatic engagements linked to the US-Iran talks. The meeting took place during Field Marshal Asim Munir’s official visit to Tehran, which is being viewed as an important step in Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in the region.

Security officials said the Pakistani military chief was received on arrival by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni along with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who has been in Tehran for several days holding discussions with Iranian officials.

During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir is expected to meet other senior Iranian leaders to discuss regional developments, bilateral cooperation and matters connected to the ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

The visit comes at a sensitive time as Iran is reportedly preparing its response to proposed American ceasefire initiatives amid rising tensions in the Middle East. Diplomatic sources believe Pakistan is playing an active role in maintaining communication channels between both sides.

Mohsin Naqvi has also continued a series of meetings in Tehran focused on backchannel diplomacy and ongoing negotiations. His discussions with Abbas Araghchi reportedly included the exchange of proposals and diplomatic messages linked to the US-Iran engagement.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and confirmed that Washington remains in regular contact with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He described Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran as “admirable.”

Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Iranian FM at a time when regional tensions remain high over Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief and security concerns in the Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz also continues to be a major focus in international diplomatic discussions due to its importance for global energy supplies.

Pakistan’s recent diplomatic engagement with Iran highlights Islamabad’s efforts to support regional stability and strengthen communication between key international players during a critical period in Middle East diplomacy.
