A high-level business delegation, led by former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ejaz, met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir in Rawalpindi.
The meeting focused on Pakistan’s economic outlook and reform agenda, according to reliable sources.
The Gohar Ejaz meeting with COAS included top business figures. Among them were APTMA Chairman Kamran Arshad, SM Tanvir, and the presidents of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
Ejaz briefed the army chief on the current state of the economy. He noted that economic stability was slowly returning and that the business community remained fully behind government policies. He highlighted the need for business-friendly measures to drive meaningful reforms.
He called for a reduction in interest rates to align with inflation and stressed that the government must address the business community’s concerns about the federal budget. Ejaz advocated for an export-oriented growth model, urging authorities to safeguard domestic cotton production and provide support to farmers. He also pressed the government to uphold all promises made in the recent budget.
The Gohar Ejaz meeting with COAS comes at a time when the army chief has repeatedly shown support for economic progress. Last month, during an official trip to the United States, Field Marshal Munir recognized the contributions of overseas Pakistanis. He lauded their role in strengthening the national economy through remittances, investments, and achievements abroad.
Earlier in May, the army chief held talks with Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC) CEO Bilal Bin Saqib. The discussion centered on the digital economy, with a focus on empowering the country’s youth through blockchain, cryptocurrency, and artificial intelligence.
These engagements underscore a growing national focus on emerging technologies as tools for resilience and global relevance. Field Marshal Munir has often assured full military support for economic advancement. He stressed that collective efforts are essential for Pakistan’s progress and voiced confidence in the nation’s ability to succeed.
